Resort Overview
Val Thorens:
Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in the Alps and one of the most snow-sure, with its north-facing slopes ensuring excellent conditions throughout a long season. Purpose-built which gets better and better with the new buildings that appear, it’s relatively compact. Quite a lot of ski in/out accommodation. There’s something for everyone here with good nursery slopes, wide intermediate slopes and some steep Red and black slopes. It also has easy direct links into the vast Three Valleys ski area.
The village also offers covered shopping arcades, a good range of bars and restaurants, and a well-equipped sports centre. In the centre there’s the Place de Caron, which is a lively hub where skiers share space with pedestrians. Many bars and restaurants overlook this central square, with large sun terraces.
Purpose-built but certainly one of the better resorts for design, nothing too ugly and has a good relaxing atmosphere. There’s a good spread of different types of accommodation from apartments and catered chalets to expensive 5* hotels.
Les Menuires/ Reberty
Another purpose built ski resort, all very convenient with lots of ski in/out accommodation, great option for those who want to experience the vast Trois Vallée ski area. Lets be honest, its not the best looking of the purpose built resorts, too many oversized concrete buildings but very budget friendly. Reberty is a lovely hamlet of chalets and restaurants, more in keeping with traditional alpine design.
For non-skiers Les Menuires offers a good range of activities. The sports centre features a swimming pool, spa, and fitness area, perfect for relaxation and recovery. Snowshoeing, tobogganing, and dog sledding are also possible, The Speed Mountain toboggan run for those who have not quite had their fill of adventure skiing.
In summary Les Menuires is a great choice if you are on a budget and alpine charm is lower down in the pecking order than skiing the amazing Trois Vallée.
