Resort Overview

Verbier. Quite simply it’s Glamorous and a bit of a playground for the wealthy, with some very pricey chalets and Hotels. A very lively apres scene with lots of bars and clubs some playing live music. The resort is pretty with authentic looking chalets and a very high end shopping scene. Maybe not the best resort within this ski area for beginners, more of an upper intermediate advanced ski area. Claims to have over 400 kms of slopes although that has been disputed by Google mapping to less than half of that but hey what’s a couple of hundred Kms 🙂 there’s no doubt this is a great ski area and why people come back year after year even with the Swiss Franc getting stronger and stronger! Not a lot of ski in out chalets but there is an inter resort bus service.

For Beginners try  Nendaz or Veysonnaz are better , Nendaz is an attractive resort and sits just above the town of Sion. Has some good North facing slopes so holds its snow well. Being in the middle of this 4 valley area its a good base to discover the whole area. better value than the more upmarket Verbier. Veysonnaz is a small family friendly resort with a few shops and bars but little apres .

Tzoumaz  which is placed just below Verbier is a cheaper alternative to Verbier but with good access to that area. Quite often the off piste skiing here can be better than Verbier as it’s not skied out so quickly. There’s also a 10km Toboggan run here, luckily the local hospital is not too far away 🙂
